Critical
Access Hospital (CAH) Program
The Colorado Rural Health Center is the recipient of the Rural
Hospital Flexibility (Flex) Grant, which provides federal funding to administer
the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) Program. The CAH program was created
by Congress to help alleviate the negative impact of the Balanced Budget
Act on the fragile rural healthcare delivery system. Hospitals that meet
certain criteria may convert to CAH licensure and receive cost based reimbursement
from Medicare. The components of the program include: CAH licensure conversion,
quality improvement, strengthening of EMS, and network development.
Colorado Provider Recruitment (CPR) Program
The Center's Colorado Provider Recruitment (CPR) program provides a broad range of recruitment and retention services beginning with the referral of primary care and mid-level provider candidates for Colorado's rural communities. CPR offers a menu of recruitment support services to rural communities like information, assistance, and workshops about rural recruitment and retention strategies, site visits to provide assistance and advice on recruitment, linkages to a national recruitment network, developing recruitment and retention strategies, and much more.
Colorado Rural Mobile Health Project (CRMHP)
The Colorado Rural Mobile Health Project (CRMHP) is a project formed around funding provided by the UnitedHealthcare Foundation. UnitedHealthcare, in collaboration with the Governor Owen's Office and the past Insurance Commissioner, David Rivera, contributed $7.5 million over the next six years toward the development and maintenance of healthcare services throughout rural Colorado. Grant funds totaling $1,000,000 created CRMHP. Please click on the above title for more information!
Colorado Rural Outreach Program (CROP)
The purpose of the Colorado Rural Outreach Program (CROP) is to strengthen the ability of Colorado's rural communities to recruit and retain healthcare providers. CROP grants can be used for payment of educational loans to help recruit and/or retain healthcare providers. The grants can also be used as support for innovative projects that provide temporary coverage for rural providers so they can take vacations or participate in continuing medical or professional education opportunities. CROP is funded through The Colorado Trust's Health Professions Initiative.
Colorado Colorectal Screening Program (CCSP)
CRHC, in collaboration with the University of Colorado Cancer Center, is working with rural clinics around the state to provide free colorectal screenings to qualified patients. Please visit the CCSP's website for more information.
LIRNS (Linking Rural Needs to Services)
The LIRNS Program was designed by the Colorado Rural Health Center to link rural communities with technical consultants who specialize in areas such as grant writing, business plan development, marketing/outreach and much more.
Marva Jean Jackson (MJJ) Rural Community Health Scholarships
Research shows healthcare providers from a rural area are more likely to practice in a rural area. The Colorado Rural Health Center has created a scholarship program to support rural "grow your own" efforts. Small grants - up to $1,000, are available to match, 2:1, local scholarship awards that help rural communities grow the providers they will need for tomorrow. Public or private entities in eligible rural areas can apply for these grants. The grants can be used for scholarship programs that put a student through medical school; or help a nurse advance his/her training; or pay for an EMT to become a paramedic. CRHC started this program with $3000 from its reserves. Each year additional internal funds will be committed. Through fundraising efforts, we hope to continue to expand the program. CRHC considers applications throughout the year.

The Colorado Rural Health Center provides a variety of resources
to the Rural Health Clinics(RHCs) of Colorado by providing various workshops,
the Annual RHC Forum, RHC Web Site, and a variety of other assistance.

Seed Grants
CRHC sets aside a portion of its revenues toward this small grant program.
Seed money is available for projects whose intent matches the mission
of the Colorado Rural Health Center - "Enhancing health care services
in Colorado." Rural members can apply for these grants of up to $500.
SHARE - Sharing Healthcare Accomplishments in Rural Environments
SHARE is a new program, developed in partnership with the Governor's Office, to acknowledge the accomplishments of rural entities and to provide information and assistance to those looking to develop similar programs in their community. STRIDE - Sustainable Towns: Rural Improvement, Development, and Expansion.
The Colorado Rural Health Center (CRHC) and the Colorado AHEC System (AHEC) are developing a new program called Sustainable Towns: Rural Improvement, Development, and Expansion, or STRIDE. This program will entail a partnership between two innovative, statewide healthcare organizations working together, and collaborating with others, to enhance the ability of communities in rural Colorado both to recruit and to retain quality healthcare providers through locally driven community development efforts.

Workforce
In an effort identify and relieve the workforce problems in Colorado, the Colorado Rural Health Center administers a variety of programs. These include CoRRRN (Colorado Rural Recruitment and Retention Network), CROP (Colorado Rural Outreach Program), CPR (Colorado Provider Recruitment), and Marva Jean Jackson Rural Community Health Scholarships.
